As usual he's right on the money, and furthermore, when he's not doing explosivee solos or fills, he is constantly propelling Jimi's inspired playing to even greater heights. The extent of his contribution to the overall sound of The Experience is often overlooked and, as ace drummer/transcriptionist Dave Hershey would agree, still some of the most adventurous rock drumming ever heard. On the origional studio version from 'Are you Experienced?' there are two lead guitars playing single notes in unison during the bridge solo. To better replicate the sound of twin guitars in this version, you'll note that Jimi uses unison bends throughout this section and in his ad-libbed outro solo. If you ever want to fatten up the sound of one of your own solos or, in fact, any melody, unison bends are definitely the ticket. Another means to the same end is octave-doubling, which was popularized by the late Wes Montgomery, and occurs in this song during the intro. Peace, Paul.
